How Valuable are Dental X-rays, Really?

X-Ray SlidesThere’s no substitute for a dental X-ray in seeing everything we need to know about your teeth, jaw and sinuses. We can diagnose decay under old fillings, abscesses, bone loss due to periodontal (gum) disease, cancer and tumors, extra and impacted teeth. We couldn’t see these conditions with the naked eye no matter how closely we looked!

Most people are aware that X-rays involve radiation, and we know some folks are concerned. But the exposure you receive from a dental X-ray is so tiny it doesn’t even compare to the natural radiation you get from, say, a day in the park. We further minimize the radiation through lead aprons, super high-speed film and filters.

X-rays are a very important diagnostic tool, and a part of a complete dental exam.
